Tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Aftab, a 23 year old lifestyle content creator and luxury travel blogger that grew up in Bournemouth – a small town by the coast of England. I moved to London around 5 years ago to start my education doing a Biochemistry degree at the University of Westminster. After completing my degree, I realised I was more of a creative rather than a scientist which lead me onto my career in hotel marketing. Combining two of my passions, luxury hotels and marketing, into one.
What inspired you to start Fresh & Fearless?
I had wanted to start a blog for a few years prior to when I did, I just didn’t know how to go about it and understandably the pressure of education and exams didn’t leave me much free time to start. My blog began as a result of procrastination from my A-level exam revision, doing a bit of research I managed to get my domain and register my blog online under the name ‘Fresh And Fearless’. At the time I didn’t know what I wanted to write about exactly, it was just meant to be an online diary for when I embarked on my new life in London.
Where does the title of the blog come from?
It stemmed from what I wanted my blog to be about. I struggled a lot with confidence at school and wasn’t one of the popular boys by any means. Moving to London was a fresh start for me and embarking on a new hobby too, after leaving my childhood hobby at home. I also vowed to myself that I would be fearless through every situation, even through my travels. I find myself pushing out of my comfort zone and ticking things off that I never thought possible on a regular basis.
What’s been your best moment as a blogger so far?
I think it would be being nominated as one of the Top 75 Luxury Lifestyle Blogs & Websites on the internet. I think it doesn’t really get better than that. It just goes to show that if you put a lot of hard work, passion and commitment into something, it will get the recognition it deserves.
You have been to some truly amazing places, do you have a favourite?
That’s a hard one. I think it would be wrong for me to pick a favourite, because each place I have visited has given me something unique to take back home with me. Whether it be pushing my limits and having a go at skiing in the Dolomites, or riding a camel and jumping on the sand dunes in Dubai or sipping Chianti wine under the sun on the hills of Tuscany. I could be here all day if I could share why I have loved every place I have visited so far.
Where’s left on your bucket list?
What isn’t? I think I’ve only just touched my long bucket list and there is plenty I want to tick off before the time comes where I can’t travel anymore. Just to name a few things on my bucket list are, spotting the Northern Lights, riding a gondola in Venice, visiting Petra in Jordan, sleeping in a treehouse, watching the hot air balloons in Cappadocia, walking on the salt crusts of Bolivia and riding western in Texas.
Aside from travel, what hobbies and pursuits interest you?
The hobby I left behind at home was horse riding. I had been around horses since I was a little kid and have loved horses for as long as I can remember. Moving to London meant that it was no longer feasible to keep horses nor keep my riding going. However, I don’t intend on that being the case forever. I had plans to get back to it once I am fully content with my time living in London.
What are the items you can’t travel without?
My friends and many PR’s actually know that I can’t travel lightly. I like to bring every possible pair of shoes with me for every occasion, along with my cosmetic store of a bathroom (my friends will love me for saying that) which often means I hate travelling hand luggage only. Of course, I could never leave my camera behind either because what is travelling without capturing and documenting those special moments?
What does the future hold for Fresh & Fearless?
I hope it enables me to keep documenting my travels in a true luxury fashion whilst ticking off my bucket list one at a time. I also hope I get the chance to keep working with more amazing luxury hotels and tourist boards. I have been so lucky to have worked with so many over the past 5 years but here is to another successful 5 I say!
