What really matters to you when seeking style advice from fashion bloggers?
Is it their style of writing? Their pretty pictures?
Or is it their age?
In the past, it seems as soon as a lady hits a certain age, they are no longer considered to be relevant to the world of fashion.
However, today age really is irrelevant. Among the crowd of ‘fresh’ and ‘youthful’ fashion bloggers, there’s a new sphere of stylish ladies over 40 taking to the internet to document their personal style.
Renia Jaz is one elegant lady who is living proof that style is ageless.
Through her blog, Vens Wife Style, this fifty plus fashionista provides effortless style advice to an audience of thousands and it’s no tale that Renia defies the stereotype of ‘what you’re supposed to wear’ at any given age.
Here Renia speaks about the inspirations behind her successful blog and reveals her go-to autumn outfits.
Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Renia Jaz, I’m a blogger and influencer who is obsessed with fashion. I’m originally from Poland but I live in UK with my husband (Ven) and two children. In my free time I love to shop and drink coffee.
You have an exceptionally unique style – how would you describe it?
Timeless, classic with masculine elements and a nod to the industry’s most relevant trends. I have been working on my aesthetic for years and I think I’m finally at the point whereby I know what my needs are, what I like and what looks good on me.
Where do you draw fashion inspiration from?
Street style, especially during fashion weeks. I also love to observe celebrities such as Tilda Swinton. She blends classic pieces with masculine elements but she does it in such a beautiful way. I admire the consistency of her style and the way in which she emphasises her personal beauty through her sense of dress.
You’re originally from Poland but live in England – would you say there’s a huge contrast between trends in the two countries?
I don’t think there is a difference in trends. However, I do think that our sense of style and what we like to wear can be influenced by where we live. I’ve adopted the British way of dressing to a certain extent; I’m keen to wear classic suits and combine them with seasonal trends, for example. The weather also plays a factor though – perhaps living in the UK is what has sparked my love of layers and outerwear?
When did you start blogging, and what inspired you to do so?
I started to blog at the end of 2016, so almost 2 years ago.
I think fashion was always in the back of my mind. But it’s my family that pushed me to start my blog. They have convinced me that I should share my style. It started as a hobby and I still see it in that way, and I must admit I absolutely love what I do! I want to show that fashion is for women of all ages. We all have the right to look interesting and on-trend. I think it’s probably more relatable to see certain trends worn by someone of a similar age to yourself so I want to inspire the women of my generation to feel confident to experiment with style.
What are the biggest obstacles you have faced growing you over 50 fashion blog in a digital world overpowered by millenials.
I don’t think I have faced many obstacles. Before I started my blog I didn’t think many people would be interested – I thought that social media was more dedicated to a younger generation. Now I understand that there’s a place for every generation and that it’s more about the message than the age of the person behind it. I think people are just as interested in mature fashion bloggers as they are the younger ones these days.
What has been the highlight of your blogging career so far?
There are so many positive things that happened since I have started my blog: meeting a lot amazing people, making new friends, being on Polish TV, being included on websites such as polish glamour, cosmopolitan.
What is your go-to outfit for fall 2018?
Cowboy boots (the longer the better), darker colours (dark green, navy and black). I also love the idea of mix and matching check pattern. I’m also planning to wear long silk scarves tied under the collar of the shirt and lots of monograms (on bags, shoes and clothes e.g. Dior and Fendi).
You hold a pretty extensive and remarkable handbag collection – do you know how many you have?
Haha… probably too many. I have been collecting bags for a really long time.
What’s the best piece of style advice you have received?
Do not be afraid of being controversial, be afraid of being boring.
Favourite fashion quote:
“You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it,” – Edith Head
We know your husband, Ven, is the inspiration behind your blog title. It this because it is such a unique and beautiful name, or does it go deeper than that?
I absolutely love my husband’s name is unique and one of a kind. But most importantly my husband has been my biggest supporter when it comes to creating my blog. Naming my blog Ven’s Wife Style was my way of thanking him for is help, love and support.
Outside of VensWifeStyle, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Travelling, I love visiting new places, trying different cuisines and taking a lot of photos. My big dream is to visit New York!
What’s coming up next in the world of VensWifeStyle – any big plans you wish to share?
Right now, my mind is occupied by Paris Fashion Week, which I will be attending at the end of September. I just cannot wait, and it’s all I can think of. There is also a number of fun and amazing projects that I’m very excited about so stay tuned…
